Back Pain Trans background

Who Can Benefit?

No two people are exactly alike. Different ages, injuries, and human experiences call for varying levels and types of treatment.

Common Conditions Treated:
• Neck & Back Pain (including pain that failed to respond to injections, medications, and those attempting to avoid non-emergency surgeries)
• Shooting and/or tingling in the arms, legs, hands, or feet
• Tension, Stress, and Migraine Headaches
• Numbness in the arms or legs
• Decreased sport-specific function, return to play recovery
• Extremity stiffness and pain
• Poor sleep quality

What Does Treatment Consist Of?

Treatment plans can vary from a virtual/phone visit where we never meet in person… all the way up to a procedure called Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA), where we perform treatment in a surgical center setting (like an endoscopy…But no tubes, cameras, needles, or knives!). Those suffering from spine pain who are ONLY managed with traditional medical wind up having surgery 47% of the time… Versus 1% when managed with Chiropractic AND Medicine!

A typical care plan may include one (or combination) of the following :
-Chiropractic Adjustments
-Therapeutic Exercise
-Manual Therapy (essentially the medical version of massage)
-Functional Taping

Now, let’s talk about each of these and why they matter to you.

What Are Adjustments?

Chiropractic adjustments are commonly misunderstood. Simply put, adjustments are a combination of physically improving joint motion and changing how your feel pain signals from your joints. We do NOT “put bones back in place;”  we introduce normal motion back into joints so your body may function however it needs. This can be done by hand or with gentle, low force instruments that do not produce the ‘popping’ and ‘clicking’ typically associated with adjustments.

Want to know a secret?
Not all people in pain require adjustments! Sometimes, this portion of care isn’t necessary and other methods of healing will be chosen. It all depends on YOU!

How Does Therapeutic Exercise work?

Therapeutic Exercise is a broad term that covers all strengthening, mobility, and endurance training necessary to restore your body  back to normal function. It is prescribed according to your presenting symptoms and conditions. This can be performed alone or in combination with other treatment methods in order to maximize results and recovery.

If you have been involved in some type of trauma (car crashes, sports injuries, etc.- you will likely need multiple treatment methods prescribed).

Why is Manual Therapy Different Than Massage?

Manual therapy is the more intense and specific cousin of massage. Massage is performed to lightly rub the outer layers of skin to cause your body to relax and be in a state of lower stress. Manual therapy is necessary for those who suffer from trigger point muscle knots, postural disorders, scoliosis, whiplash, etc.

Manual therapy is performed on specific muscles in a way that restores function to help correct these issues. Manual therapy sessions are also much more efficient- they only take 10-30 minutes!

Functional Taping

Traditional tape is designed to stiffen and almost completely remove mobility from the affected body part.

When applying kinesiotape, we intend to achieve three things:
• Reduce pain
• Reduce swelling and tissue congestion
Improve your body’s position sense

This benefits you by allowing you to return to normal movement patterns, improve athletic endurance, AND reduce risk of future injury, wear and tear. You don’t need to be taped forever- only when you are actively correcting movement patterns and healing injured tissues.
